Prep work is very important inside the engine bay.

Prep work period is important. It saves time and/or improves the quaility of the finished product.

I would have to say that it took me longer to clean and prep the valve cover than it took to actually paint it.

damn, that looks sick! Post a pic of it reinstalled. Im glad you repainted it, me and Jed were saying that you should after looking at it at HS. I love that color combo. What type of paint is that anyway, is that Duplicolor Metalcast?

I took this from my cardomain site.

Quote:
[body]After Hyundai Sunday 2006 and seeing how nice some of the custom painted valve covers looked, I thought I'd try my hand at doing something custom and unique.

Here are the paints I used.
1 5oz can of Dupli_Color GM Cayenne Red
1 5oz can of Dupli_Color GM Grey Met
1 5oz can of Dupli_Color Clear Top Coat

expand
I washed the used valve cover completely with dish soap and water and finished with some rubbing alcohol to make sure that the surface was perfectly clean.

Then I sanded off the raised lettering stamped by the factory for a cleaner look.

I laid down a nice coat of the red where I wanted to have the Performance lettering to appear.
Applied a vinyl of the desired text onto the red paint and proceeded to paint the Grey. Both colors I gave two coats for a nice rich finish.

After drying the paint with a hair dryer, I carefully removed the vinyl.

I then gave the entire piece a double coat of the clear coat.

For the plug wire cover I washed the same as the valve cover and masked the Hyundai logo and DOHC 16V area and gave it a couple coats of the red. After drying I clear coated it as well.

After letting it dry and cure overnight I took some pics and installed it in the car.

Ok. I've got a couple questions.
So your valve cover is plastic right???
How's the paint gonna hold up?
Have you had any issues with the paint cracking at all yet?
I'm really interested in doing this to my Lc so thats the reason for all my questions.
