Default how to re-attach rubber striping to sunroof..?

hey. my sunroof has been rusted on the bottom metal edge since i got it a year ago. ive got some POR 15 and am going to be restoring it. ive got to pull the rubber weather striping edge off of it to do so though.

so, how/what would i use to go about re-attaching it? just some sort of silicone sealant, glue, caulking? what? i have no real idea. anyone who knows, let me know :

thanks

If there is rust underneath the stripping, sand it out first. Maybe put some primer on it to protect it. Now, how was the rubber stripping held in? The strongest product I have used to hold something in place is Liquid nail. Be sure to get the weatherproof one. BE WARNED.... This stuff dries like cement, make sure you don't get any where you don't want it to be, such as on the car and get it off your hands ASAP cause it will hurt trying to get it off. Home Depot carries it. I would then caulk around the edges to extra protect it.

Is this an aftermarket sunroof? If so, thats why you have some rust.

nope its stock.

we put the strip back in... it had to be worked down in between the sunroof panel glass and the sunroof panel metal. the glass has a metal part on the bottom.. i think the strip was set in the metal, then the glass was glued down to it.. it wasn't really made to be pulled out and put back in, but my dad did it. he put vaseline all over the rubber to get it back in.. and it seems to be doing ok. either way, it never leaked into the car before, and it still doesn't. it sjust that i didn't like the metal rusting. so either way it shouldn't be any worse than before. if anything it should be much better off!
