Default power steering pump blown?

I'm trying to determine what the hell is wrong w/ my car, i'm bringin it to the mechanic later this week. Lemme start from the beginning

My friend installed my unorthodox racing underdrive pulley, he's installed them on other cars before w/ no probs. That evening after gettin my car back i felt increased hp in my car, but noticed if i turned my wheel hard to either way it'd squeak.

On further inspection, when it squeaked the pulley and belt would stop and then start, stop and then start, etc.

Over the past week or so it's gotten much worse. Now it squeaks (very loud, embarisingly loud!) whenever i turn the wheel and gets worse as i hit the gas.

My a/c belt isn't attached to my pulley b/c at the time the auto store gave my friend a OEM belt. The belts seem to be tight enough but it seems like the lower bolt for the power steering pump is missing a back nut (should there be one?)

Also, when i get the squeaking, my steering wheel seems to skip and when i have my headlights they get a bit dim in sync w/ the sqeaking, so i'm thinking it's also affecting the alternator.

My question is, what could the problem be? could my power steering pump be blown? could it be my pulley?

Thanx a lot for any advice.

Check the belt tension, loosen the belt and rotate the PS pulley by hand. Rock it from side to side. If there is no freeplay side to side and it rotates freely tighten the belt up to spec and there shouldnt be aby more problems. If the pulley refuses to turn or there is excessive lateral freeplay you will either have to pull a new pump from the yard or rebuild it. Good luck.

mine did this... ur belts need to be tighter... to test this go get some belt dressing from pepboys and spray it on there it should fix it for 2-3 days and make ur car sound turbo.... butthan just go to autozone rent a belt deflection tester and test the belt tension
