Default MOVED: Stupd question but I want to see it my theroy make sense.

OKay I notice that some people say they lower the pressure in their tires to achieve a faster 0-60 or 1/4 time. Well is it because of rotational mass? Less weight the wheels have to spin=speed reached faster over all? Thanx.

The reason that lowering the pressure helps is because it will give you better traction. When you reduce the tire pressure you allow more of the tire to sit on the road. Thus increasing your contact patch, thus giving you better traction off the start.

This way you will reduce wheel spin. The best combination is to have your drive wheels with lower pressure and you free spinning wheels with higher pressure. On front wheel drive cars it is best to keep the rear wheels with a higher pressure. This way they do not create a drag.

Of course by doing this you are not going to see a big differece in your times, but, it will be noticable.

Lower pressure should give you more grip, but it will also increase rolling resistance/drag, which will slow you down. So your time might stay close to the same, as the advantage might be cancelled out by the increase in drag.
