Default D1128 maf controlled air and fuel metering, what is this code???

Hey all,

I am not too happy with my car right now. I took my car to the dealership and had my check engine light reset, and computer scanned (It went off 10 miles from the car lot after I bought it, LOL) Anyhow, the dealership told me that I didn't have my gascap on correctly and this tripped the light. Going through the previous owners paperwork a few minutes ago they took the car to a different dealership and had the compuer scanned and reset 3 times within 2 months. The car has 16,800 right now and when the previous owner had it serviced it had 16,400 to 16,600 on it. In my paperwork it says that the gascap was not on correctly or it had a loose wire to a accessory (did not explain what assessory). HUMMM sounds like they don't make good gas caps . Thankfully there is a autozone here that scans computers for free. The code it is pulling up was:

(DTC INFO) D1128 MAF CONTROLLED FUEL AND AIR METERING

Does anyone have a manual so I can pinpoint the problem??
Another thing that burns me up is that when asked about a soft clutch petal they told me that I had to get used to it... that they had to wear in.... Which I know is complete bulls&*t. The clutch fulid is almost completly black, they said that too was normal (I had other clutch cars and the fulid was always clear)

Is Hyundai known for this kind of service? To patch cars up and say it is somthing like a gas cap when they know what the real problem (probally the maf sensor its self) just to keep from honoring the warrenty (which mind you I had to fight tooth and nail for them to honor!)

Thank you all for reading and letting me vent,

Loki

It is weird for me to read this topic tonight. I had a real big problem with my Tiburon last week. I filled up with gas last Tuesday, and on Wednesday I noticed it was hard to start and the Check Engine light was on. Well, Thursday I got my oil changed and the guy asked if the light came on last time I got gas. I thought about it and that seemed to be about the time it happened. He said to check the gas cap. He told me that I was the third car that day to come in with that problem, and it's usually because the gas cap isn't on all the way or isn't positioned properly. I've had my Tib for 1 1/2 years and this is the first time my Check Engine light has come on. Well, I took the cap off and put it back on. I picked my girlfriend up from class, drove her to the dorm, and hopped on the interstate. I realized the light was gone, and ever since then my car has had no trouble starting.

I guess what I'm saying is, I guess the gas cap was the problem. It sounds weird and I don't know why it would effect the car having trouble starting, but they seemed to be linked together. About the manual... can't help you there, sorry.

(by the way I have about 45,000 miles on my car and never a problem with it... except having 2 accidents within 2 months of getting it... stupid girls couldn't drive....)
Good luck with your Accent

hey, i doubt that hyundai would tell you that to not honoe the warraty!! in fact, if the MAF is the problem, this would be the first step to trying to solve the issue....if the light comes back on with the same code, they may go the way of the MAF....I work for a dealership and that is usually the process unless there is no doubt that the MAF is the problem....maybe that helps!!!

well I unhooked the battery (to clear the memory again) and took the maf sensor off and cleaned it good with electrical solvent. It looked like it had corosion on the metal contacts as well as on the inside metal of the sensor. The car came from New Jersey and the metal on the outside of the engine had the same white flakey substance (most likely road salt that was not washed off). The car is running better than when I test drove it. If I was to spray throtle body cleaner into the engine should I do this without spraying it into the maf sensor??? Is cleaning the sensor with electrical solvent going to backfire on me in the long run??

Thanks for your help,

the white flakey stuff isn't slat that hasn't been washed off! it's corrosion. you might want to inspect it a little more. to determine if it's surface corrosion or intergranular! if it intergranular then you need to clean it up before something gets ate up.

GUYS!!!! the obd2 system checks for pressure in the gas tank, so if the gas cap is not on right it throws a code, same if you over fill the tank, and gas leaks etc. it's a known problem with all car. the gas cap has to be on right and 3-5 clicks tightened or it will throw a code. Take the cap off, put it on and twist for 3-5 clicks, it takes 3 driving cycles ( on, warm up 10 mins, off ) to clear the code if it is a loose gas cap.

if the gas cap doesn't fix it look here, only AFTER 3 trips with the gas cap on right
