Default Power Antenna

I'm sure that some of you have experienced this problem before because I see alot of parked Elantras out there with their power antennas sticking partially or even fully up!

This is my problem too. After switching off the radio, or for those of you who don't bother with that and just turn the key to the off position, the antenna is supposed to fully retract ... right? Mine does not; it makes a whole lot of noise on it's way down and remains up about 8 inches.

I tried lubricating the pole with WD40, silicone spray and even some left over castrol syntec with no success. I believe the next move is to pop the trunk and tackle the problem from inside. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone ever successfully solved this problem?uzzled:

Default Re: Power Antenna

The antenna on my sonata acted like that last winter. I took it to the dealer (under warranty) and they tried to get it to malfunction. It worked ok while in the shop. They cleaned and lubed it and it has worked fine ever since. The tech said he suspected dirt and/or ice.

No I haven't ... never have in fact, but as Arnie mentioned in his post it's most likely dust or dirt.
