Default How do you know when your clutch is close to being worn?

Just a question.

it will start making a bunch of noise when pushed in, the clutch will slip, and right at the end, when your clutch IS about to die, it will vibrate, and just feel terrible when you push it in. those are a few i can think of

When you think you're roasting your tires until you see smoke coming out of the hood.

You'll feel it slipping, especially on hard launch.

well, seeing how mine just went yesterday, i can answer..
itll be loud, very Friction loud. nothing left loud, grinding, bad feeling in the pedal.
for me, when something is about to go on a car, itll run niice. itll be a dream, then the empty wallet.
i knew it was about to go. i knew all day, then it did 930 or so last night. i had to walk about a mile, only a mile cause i was around my inlaws neighborhood. cool!
but it was coooolllldddd and windy, and still is for Christs' sake! mother@*%!#*!!!
the time it actually goes, the last pedal-push, it feels strange as a mofo! ..... a mofo, you hear?? :| oh well..

I've had two go out on me, both on my way to work, which is real good since I work for a truck dealership service department. Mine gave no warning at all, a spring in the clutch disc just broke when shifting, I experienced no slipping at all, and both were at around 120k to 130k miles. I was able to continue driving the rest of the way to work (first time about 25 more miles & the second was only about 2 miles).

i really hope my clutch isn't dying because i'm not really in the mood to buy a new one. anyways, whenever i push the clutch in i hear a brushing sound. a lot of people on the other threads mentioned grinding or squeeking. this is neither of those. i don't really know the anatomy of a clutch so this is all just guess-work but it sounds like the plates are brushing up against something. any ideas?

a semi-safe way to check if the pressure plate is functioning and you have friction material left is to go about 20-30mph, put it in 3rd, Rev it up, then dump the clutch going to WOT. If it grabs/bogs, its good. It it takes a long period of time for the revs to drop... not good. Dont do this alot because its not exactly nice on anything and its putting a good amount of wear on the disc.

Ive also heard of doing the same sitting still.. put it in a gear higher than 3rd.. rev it up and dump the clutch. The car dies the clutch is good but the first option seems ALOT nicer on the engine/trans.

NOTE: The fluid in your clutch hydro system GETS FREAKING NASTY in a year or two. If your getting random weirdo slipping, check that. Mine was like paste. Took an entire bottle of fluid to flush that nasty crap out.

because of the hydrolic clutch system, it all moves inward as the fingers in the pressure plate start to wear down. So, as the engage point changes (as in, gets closer and closer to the floor) you know the disc is getting more and more worn down to the rivits. I have a 7000 km old clutch and the engage point is somewhere near my friggin throat! huge difference. You will also hear a scraping/grinding sound when you push the pedal in.
