Default So..anyone ever change a parking brake cable?

Well my right side e-brake cable is busted. The e-brake handle is all loose an I could feel that it was disconnected. So today I removed the floor console, and the right side cable was off the bracket.
Long story short, only the left side works if I can keep both cables on the bracket for proper tension. The cable snapped right by the caliper bracket.
Anyone change one of these? I'm guessing the cable's like 30 bucks. But I've got the screw-me-in-the-rear extended warranty, anyone get a parking brake cable changed under warranty?
Thanks

yeah i just changed my left one last weekend lol.

gotta take out the rear seat and the side molding on the doorjam to pull up the carpet. theres a bolt and bracket securing both brake cablesabout 10 inches behind your ebrakehandle that you need to pull up the carpet to get to. then it runs straight back under the rear seat through the subframe and continues under the car. there is also a bracket about a 2 feet or so in front of the rear suspension that holds the cable up under the car. the last bolt secures the cable assembly to the lateral control arm. this bolt usually snaps off so if it brakes dont be surprised. both of mine are broke (both sides), whatever.

also remove the rear drum and axle bearing assembly. the axle nut is either 1 1/4" or 30mm i cant remember. remove the rear pads and unhook the cable from the ebrake lever on the rearmost pad. theres also a clip that holds the ebrake cable to the back of the hub assembly, make sure you pop this out and the cable *should* slide right out. emphasis on 'should'. mine was rusted solid in there and basically i just ripped the whole damn bracket/retainer thing out with vice grips. as a solution to this i just used a big nut like 12-14mm or something to prevent the new cable from sliding through the back of your hub.

all in all it took maybe 2 hours because of dealing with the carpet pulling and rear seat removal, and replacing the retainers on drum brake pads are a pain in the @$$ to say the least. even with the 'special tool' that usually bites anyways. i dunno how IL winters are but CNY uses a lot of salt, everything rusts and corrodes. if your car isnt as rusted as mine it should be a little easier, but the seat/carpet/drum disassembly and reassembly is time consuming.

yah, IL winters=salt galore. I was surprised how much rust was on my undercarrage. I can tell the cable broke b/c of rust. My cheapo KORE CAI filter is all rusted too, I was down there changing a fog light bulb last night.
Actually I've got discs in the back, and it looks like the cable attaches to some kind of bracket with a spring that's on the back side of the caliper. That's the part I can't figure out, because there's a spring, and that's all I can see. And I'm a little luckier with the cable bracket at the handle, no carpet pulling. I pulled the console today, and it was right there. The cable coming from the handle was about 4 inches, and the bracket was right there, the cables going into the floor right where the console would end. I just can't figure out how they are held in there. But I found out I didn't have to pull out the console, the floor in the little armrest compartment in the floor comes out, at least it did when I flipped the console over.

But hey, someone should sticky this for drum brake guys, that's very in depth! Thanks!

Is the parking brake on the GT the kind where the cables work a little drum brake setup inside the rear rotor hat, or do they actually work the rear calipers?

They work the calipers. There is a spring that squeezes the caliper, and then lets the cable go back to resting position when the handle is down, from what I can tell. It's hard to explain, but there's definately no mini-drum.
