Default Temp gauge going crazy

Well im drivin to work this morning and i notice that a little bit of coolant is leaking on my manifold causeing some smoke. So i pull over and see that it is coming out or one of the hoses, very slowly. I proceed to drive to work and while i'm driving now, the temp needle starts to just go crazy and dance around. Almost as if when i got on the throttle it would respond to that. But by the time i got to work(about 30 minutes of driving) the needle stopped dancing around. My first guess would be the thermostat. The radiator is about 2 weeks old as well. Any ideas?

coolant temp sensor maybe? i had a crazy electrical problem in the nissan a few months ago, and it caused my speedo and tach to jump around like crazy. so you could try to locate something like that as well.

Now its normal again.......go figure... I think im still gonna change out the sensors though. Whats the scoop on the sensors that are higher temp or something like that? Are they worth it or should i just stick to stock?

And its jumping around again. What sensor is it that controls the temp gauge in the car? is it the thermostat? or the coolant temp sensor?

Not sure about the Accent...but the Tib has two coolant temp sensors, one with output to the ECU (2-wire connector) and one that outputs to the cluster gauge (single wire). They are right next to each other.

However...you said it started doing this when you noticed coolant leaking. I can't imagine that being a coincidence. Fix the leaking hose and bleed the system. Air bubbles passing by the sensor will cause those erratic readings.
