Default Re: new cel help please

okay i forgot i got the 707 and the 717 codes before in the past and recieved advice on this forum, but the problem stopped and i didn't do anything about it.
-why and how did the problem just stop, i dont want to change anything if its not really broken,
-everyone said to check the reed switch and the pulse generator. How do i do this, without simple replacing them?
-if i have to replace these parts how much are they and where can i find them?
any help is always appreciated
thanks

From HMA Service:

p1624
If transaxle DTC are set and the MIL is illuminated, codes P1624 and P1529 will be displayed in the "Engine" menu. The purpose of the DTC is to advise that the TCM requested the ECMto turn on the MIL (the TCM does not have the authority to turn on the MIL).
P1624 MIL-On request from TCM

p0717
DESCRIPTION:

An improperly functioning pulse generator on a 1996-2000 Elantra, 1997-2001 Tiburon or 1996-2002 Accent may result in the following conditions:

NOTE
These conditions may be intermittent and difficult to duplicate:

Diagnostic Trouble Codes:
P0717 - No pulse generator-A signal
P0722 - No pulse generator-B signal
P1624 - MIL-On request from TCM
-Third-gear "Fail-Safe" condition and/or "Check Engine" light on
-Harsh, delayed or erratic 1-2 upshift
-Harsh or erratic 2-1 downshift during light acceleration
-Vehicle bucking and/or hesitation

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Check for DTC in both the Engine and Automatic Transaxle" menus. If you have the following DTC, perform the repair procedure:
DTC REPAIR PROCEDURE
P0717, P0722 Replace pulse generators
P1624 Erase code
P0732, P0733, P0734 Erase codes: (P0732, P0733, P0734 may be induced by animproperly functioning PG-B)

Clean both ends of the pulse generator connectors and the connectors to the TCM with aerosol electrical contact cleaner such as:
NAPA Electronic Cleaner, P/N 765-1843 or
MOPAR MP-50 Electrical Contact Cleaner, P/N 04549626 or equivalent
Reconnect the pulse generator connector. For 1996-2000 Elantra only, remove the connector from the transaxle bracket. Leave the connector loose on the transaxle case to prevent any tension on the harness.

Test drive the vehicle for at least two key-on to key-off driving cycles:
If P0722 recurs, go to Step 5.
If P0717 recurs, go to Step 6.
For 1996-2000 Elantra or 1996-2002 Accent, replace the reed switch on the speedometer. For 1997-2001 Tiburon, replace the vehicle speed sensor on the transaxle. Test drive the vehicle for at least two key-on to key-off driving cycles:
If P0717 or P0722 recur, go to Step 6.

Replace the TCM. Test drive the vehicle for at least two key-on to key-off driving cycles. If P0717 or P0722 recur, go to Step 7.
Replace the wiring harness between the TCM and pulse generators:
MODEL HARNESS HARNESS P/N
1996-2000 ELANTRA
1997-2001 TIBURON
1996-1999 ACCENT
ENGINE HARNESS
912XX-XXXXX

2000-2002 ACCENT
ECM CONTROL HARNESS
914XX-XXXXX

P0707
Transaxle Range Switch
No input signal
Check the transaxle range switch
Check the transaxle range wiring harness
Check the manual control cable

--------------------------------------------------------------

Not being a Hyundai Tech, I would guess the first thing you want to check/replace is the pulse generator, and then the range switch. Could also be that your wiring harness if fvcked up... It can get expensive quick if you don't know what you're doing, you might be better off getting it to a dealership... Maybe someone else has some insights...

[It's hard to copy from HMAservice, you may want to register and see for yourself]

Good luck...
