Default persistent cylinder misfires: various times

Hello,

2000 Elantra 2.0L automatic

This car has been giving me problems for the past year.

Current Problem: Right now, a cylinder #1 misfire; the claim is that the injectors and spark plugs need to be replaced. Injector 1 and 3 when interchanged cause misfire to happen in other cylinder. Fuel tank was checked for contamination but turned out ok. Fuel Filter not checked.

A summary in the timeline it appeared. Maybe it would help to narrow what is wrong right now.

1) Car wouldn't start. (Clogged Fuel filter was culprit)
2) Excess oil in intake caused the MAF to go bad (no CEL just pinging/knocking) it was claimed that the aftermarket Amsoil air filter (mesh type with oil) was problem. I forgot to ask for oil analysis, and confirm if it was engine oil or the air filter oil

3) Spark plug wires had to be changed (misfires) they changed spark plugs too.

4) Ignition switch and all keys had to be changed (car was dead for a while) the key had to be put inside ignition for increasing amount of time when cold, before it could start.

5) Ignition wire was loose/burnt (misfire)

6) Fuel pressure regulator changed due to fuel leak near it (misfire)

Will replacing the injectors cause the misfires to go away? Is there anything between the injectors and spark plugs? Is it an internal engine problem? Is it an intake valve, O-ring, seal problem?

The fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator etc. lead me to suspect that the fuel pump may also fail.

Finally is it worth spending money? I can’t do any repairs, just a book mechanic. I already spent a couple of thousand on it...

Thanks for your time :depressed:

If you havent already changed the plugs/wires I would do so. Sounds to me like a coilpack problem (happened to me not long ago).

Can you please explain a little bit why it is a coilpack problem? What problems did you have with your car?

Thanks in advance
