Default I think my starter is pooched.

Recently after my 1.8 cam install, my car has been having difficulties starting sometimes. It has become more frequent lately though. I would turn the key and the starter would whirr like it had a purpose. But the car would just not start. I had to bump start it a couple of times. That is embarassing...:dead:
I am going to take it to the shop this morning and see what the problem is.

I hope it is nothing too serious.

is the battery putting out enough cold crankin amps? if you know someone with access to a battery tester (one that does load, ripple, etc), i'd check that first. easier than monkeying with the starter

Well... Just got back from the shop. The scan tool said that the crank sensor was not working and the cam sensor was showing an error too. Not sure if one caused the other until he starts working with it. So it is not the starter.

Are there two different types of 1.8L cam? I was wondering if I got one that wont work with the current sensors I have.

It also looks like I may be looking at a new air bag module. I hope this is not the case since these suckers can be expensive...:dead:

Yeah, check the Crank sensor. I just did a 1.8 cam swap and teh same thing happened. Well, the cam pos sensor was showing the same tolerances. They need to be tight; 1mm off and it could cause signal degradation to the inductor.

It ran like shit for like, 15 mins. Then suddenly it ran OK. Maybe the ECM had to remap after the shutdown.
