Default Only happens to me, I swear! Weird sound coming from under hood?

I am about to give my car(2000 Hyundai Accent 1.5.L) to my cousin and of course now it has a problem. It had a CEL last month which was a bad rear O2 sensor. So I replaced that and the CEL cleared. Now within the past few days the car is noticeabley louder when I drive. At idle its not a problem and it idles fine no fluctuation. It runs great and no problems with it other than it is louder. It seems like there is a hole somewhere in the exhaust since it seems to only get louder when I accelerate, it almost sounds like I have a different muffler or something, at least from the inside of the car it does.

So I crawled under and couldnt find anything. I had my wife hold the pedal down to 1500 RPM and listened and it def. sounds under the hood somewhere. I took off the heat shield and didnt see any type of crack or hole on the headers. I havent checked the downpipe(??) I havent taken that shield off of there yet. I also checked the flex pipe and there was nothing noticable there either.

I have an appt to take it in Tuesday but I was suppose to give him the car this weekend? Anyone have any other ideas of where to check or what to check out?

I would put money down that it's the flex pipe, you know that wire mesh that is udner the car that is part of the first pipe. I had to replace mine up here in salty chicago (use salt for snow) under 60,000 miles. That seems to be the first part to go bad.

Flex pipe...

I replaced mine a year and a half ago... If you order if from http://www.allhyundaiisuzupart.com/ you can get it for less than 100 after shipping.

It is not covered under any hyundai warranty. I bought mine for 150 at the dealer because I bought one fron ebay (hyundai dealer) and it was for the 2000 and in 2001 i guess they changed it, so had to return it (they were really good about it) and bought from dealer since it was already removed from the car, did try to repair, not happening.

^^^ Yeah. My dad's 2002 protege's catalytic converter intake flange rusted off, resulting in a neat sound of power!

It was covered.

Liz's is messed up too. That's because whoever installed her exhaust system didn't think it necessary to weld in hangers between the cat and resonator.

The flex pipe is NOT a load-bearing device! I wonder how some mechanics get their licenses...
