Default Loss of power unless running rich

I have this problem, maybe someone can help me. My new Pony has this weird issue, whereas it idles fine, accelerates fine (especially at WOT) but will not run smooth unless it has the choke on. It feels like the car is not getting gas. That leads me to believe a faulty air/fuel mix (lean), however turning up the A/F metering yeilded nothing. it runs awesome with the choke on.

I have isolated dwell angle, the distributor, the vacuum advance timing, the coil, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, fuel itself, air filter, and even the points. I've done a compression test, all cylinders average 150 PSI (number 3 registered 70 PSI and I checked no 4 and it was at 147, then I checked no 3 again and it was at 155)

All I could think of is the condenser, jets, or some vaccum leak somewhere, but i've checked it out and it looks OK.

WTF? I'm out of ideas and this thing needs to pass an emission test (for the last time in it's life, it's 19 years old)

Can it be the "cruise" circuit on the carb is fucked? I will conduct a fuel pressure test (whereas there will be a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and taped to my windshield) but that's all I could think of.

Anything?

But wouldnt the choke only limit the air not the fuel? So that it IS running lean.. right? So you have low fuel pressure. Is it a mechanical or electirc fuel pump? You might just want to add an inline fuel pump to help with your tuned carb.

Maybe its just a clogged injector or filter? or line..

Maybe you should just adjust the choke line so you can never fully close it and be happy. :

well I played with the float bowl and it seems to me that the main jet is fucked. I need a new carb.

That would be awesome to see a four barrel 390 on a Pony.

Ever think of a performance Weber carb with the rejet kit?

indeed! I will put a performance carb on the good pony. The ailing carb is on the new Pony i just bought. It's so bad now, even with the choke pulled out all the way it stalls every time the revs drop.

Oh float bowl, i've killed thee.

On the plus side, i've just installed a stock Accent GT tape deck! Which is better than what I had in there before, one of those knob 2speaker thingies.

For now the car is ready for certification as it is. If I do need to do an emission test, I'll grab the carb off the other pony. The car is driveable, just very rough.
