Default Can a clutch Freeze?

gang,

odd problem, can a clutch freeze? On really cold night, like last night, the pedal is hard and the car does not really go into gear, once I let the car warm up however and I pump the pedal eventually it gets loose and I am good to go. New clutch about 6k ago and they had to replace a part just before the master cylinder...they tested the master and slave cylinders and they were good to go. Any thoughts?

Also, another small problem, every once and a while the battery light and the parking brake light (which are right beside eachohter) Are faintly on...they kind of fliker a bit then after a bit, they go off!

The light is just an indication that there is an abnormal drain on the alternator. If it goes out and stays out, I would not worry. If it stays on, or comes on as you are driving, then it is the alternator failing (like when I borrowed yoon's truck that one day...)

The clutch disc itself cannot freeze, but the clutch master/slave bore can contract and make the piston harder to move, but it would have to get VERY cold for that to happen. More than likely it's trans fluid geting so thick, it actually keeps the gears in. THis happened on a few of my less-maintained winter ponys, wherein you would take the car out of gear, and release the clutch (it's in neutral now) and it would briefly start to travel in the direction of the last gear... once it took me backwards into a shopping cart, which gained speed down the hill, and hit a parked civic very hard.

So be warned!

as for the first problem, I had a new alternator installed in October...Brand new infact?! Could it be the battery?

And as for the tranny fluid. it is also new as it was changed when they did my clutch!!

the clutch would have to get water in it, then the water stay in place long enough to freeze... then have enough ice that the spinning of the engine and/or the slave cyl couldn't just break it apart.

If the hydro system froze, it would either have to be FREAKING COLD or have water in that system. Thats a problem by itself right there.
