Default air conditioner woes!!!

all,

2002 Elantra VE, air conditioner appears to no t be working. I did hear the compressor kick on during the winter when it turned on but today I blasted it for 15-20 mins, no cold and I dont hear the compressor turn on. the AC light comes on when I hit the button but no dice! Any thoughts before I go to a garage?

thanks....

p.s, where is the fuse if I want to check it, I am not finding HMASERVICE that helpful!

i had a similiar problem..

check the thermistor..it's what trigger's the a/c compressor to turn on..thus starting the a/c system..

it's a little sensor wedged on the core of the evaporator unit under the glovebox

the little sensor with a little wire harness attached to it..

Thanks for the tip, I will check it out. Also, I guess I should check the fuse as well right? If the light on the switch comes on does that mean the fuse is ok though?

Also, is the draw on the car when I turn the air on the compressor kicking in? because that is what is not happening! when I hit the button nothing happens at all but the blower is working just fine, blows the air fine!!

that's obviously the problem with the thermistor..

if it doesn't work..the a/c light will come on..but only stale air will blow..and the a/c clutch won't kick in..

like i said...look at the evaporator..take out the thermistor and clean it..it might be clogged with debris or something...

the thermistor i tihnk basically measure's the temperature of the core ro something...it send' the a signal to the compressor to kick in..

so if the thermistor is bad, i think the system isn't working.

doe's it just click once when the blower is on or is it just a continuous clickity clickty sounds?

might be something stuck on the blower blade impeller.

or is it a electric like snap sound?

Electronic Snap would be a better description and it is only once when I first turn it on.
