Default Possible clutch/transmission problem.

I have a problem with my transmission and need some advice as to what the problem could be.

So here it is...

Travelling along on the highway at 140kph and it pops out of gear into neutral. Now I gotta tell you... If you have ever experienced this sort of thing you will know that it scares the bloody hell out of you.
So I put it back in gear and a couple of minutes later... Bang... It comes out again.
At first I thought perhaps I didn't have it in gear all the way. Not it happens again??? Can't be.
This goes on and on about 15 times in a 35 minute drive.

Now the last time something like this happened to me my differential went. The pin that holds the pinion pin broke. This allowed the pinion to slide out a little at a time and wear away the differential housing. It wore away to the point where tranny fluid leaked onto the clutch causing it to pop out of gear.

I don't smell anything out of the ordinary.

What do you think it is? Syncros? Clutch? Differential? Is it possible that the transmission fluid is a little low?

SAVE ME!!!!!!

I had those symptoms when I ran low on tranny gear oil in my old Blazer due to a bad seal. It's easy to check, so you might start there.

same things happend in my X3 manual, popped out for first all the time to neutral, 4 weeks after that started happening the tranny died. I would start with the cheapest first dood, fluid. Doesnt sound good to me though!

I doubt its the clutch...does it only happen in overdrive? if so it might just be the selecter fork is not engaging the syncro hub all the way but if it happens in all gears then you probably have some excessive input shaft play which is not good. I assume you do regular maintinence so hopefully it is just the 5th gear syncro. good luck.

Hi. I have a similar problem I think.

I own a 2001 Accent, 1.5. My shifter seems to drop out of 3rd gear, especially on a bumpy area. It doesn't seem like it fully engages and sticks into that gear. It's jumped out of other gears too but not as often.

I fooled around with the shift assembly, with little improvements. Do you think this could be a tranny fluid problem too?
