Default Squealing alternator belt

I have an unbearable sqealing sound in my belt, sometimes i start it its not there but most times its is, goes away and comes back again

2. i took off the power steering cleaned it out put it back on , now my power steering isn't working

Did you use the tensioner to get it good and tight? That is the first thing to check.

If the P/S pump has a bearing going out it will act as described...starts by making your belt squeal and ends in power steering failure. Usually that will cause a leak though.

Thanks for your response, I tightened the belt, the noise went away, hopefully that will do it, yes I am driving a Tiburon

Tiburon's have notorious issues with power steering squeal. I actually have an issues with this at the moment, once I get a new belt on I am going to tighten the crap out of her.

yes but cn you tighten it too much is the qustion?

Yes, you can over tighten it and cause problems too. If you can still deflect the belt by hand when you're done you're probably fine though. If not you'll be eating alternator bearing.

by the way im not trying to take over the post but i have this weird sound not a squeak but kind of a wine from my belts could that be from the conditioner i sprayed on them??

Possibly? Where is the noise coming from in teh engine compartment? Are they all tightened properly, not to loose or tight?Your driving an Accent right? Is it as your driving, accelerating, or sitting that it makes the sound?

Anybody else help him on this one to?

yea its while im accelerating the higher the rpms the louder the belts whine not asnything serious i dont think im just wondering could it be because i put too much conditoner on them? it actually sounds pretty cool with my sai and the belt whine sounds like i actually have something under the hood
