No there are more light cleaners. The talk about hoses and paint is jsut to cover the stupid people that leave the foam on for too long. If you spray, light scrub, then rinse you'll be ok. Some cheap paint may get recked with the foam. If you only wish to clean off the little bit of dust that forms then just use DISHSOAP. Yes dishsoap! Takes the oils, greases adn dirt off as good as any engine cleaner. might require some scrubbing at first but once your down to just regular cleanings. A simple spray soap then rinse will do. the Engine Foam is for extreme cleaning. I use it in the twice. Mid winter and spring. To clean off the chemicails used on our roads up here. But regular cleaning is with dishsoap. I use a old jug that allows me to hook it onto the garden hose and withthe water turned on I flick a switch and it pulls soap with the water, flick it agian and just water. A good clean spong and presto, clean engine bay.
ALSO: If you have a pod filter make sure to wrap in in a paper bag or something. I use a large sandwich bag. Otherwise you will need to let is dry before you start your engine. Also some filter media don't like soap or water. (Wet Gauze or K&N type)
