I just remembered something... it was the summer of 2000, and I was always wondering why my Pony's fuel gauge showed Reserve after 150K....
I thought it was the sender, so I converted it to a Mack truck unit. Upon removal of the fuel tank, I pulled out the sender... and wrapped around it was a gas nozzle return spring! Apparently, because of the Leaded nature of the car, the fuel hole is 2.5x larger than a regular Unleaded nozzle! So... someone gassing up before me probably pulled the filler, and it ripped off the spring, sending it down the filler neck, into the tank, which in time wrapped itself in the sender!
Granted, the 1987 Stellar operates on UNLEADED fuel... but check for foreign deposits anyways!
