okay, heres the deal. started a while ago. still got about 700 miles till 60k. so warranty is still active. i am going to take it in on this tuesday, but i wanted to know if anyone had any ideas as to what it may be.
doesnt matter what weather conditions there are. or if i just started my car or not. every time i break i can feel through my feet and the floor of the car like something is hitting. its like when your brakes are bad and you step on them and they thud. yet i know its not the brakes. its kinda like hitting a small bump in the road. anyone have any ideas? i know its not that descriptive, but thats the only way i can describe it.
Your suspension could be going bad, but it might actually be your brakes. Check to see if the brake rotors are warped. Also you might want to check your bearings and all you links in the suspension. Last thing that it might be is your tires might not be balanced correctly, or one of the steel radials might of broke off inside the tire. Just a couple of things to take a look at.
well i have aftermarket rims w/ rubber. so i am pretty sure its not the balancing. not only that, i have had them unbalanced before. and its more of an all the time thing/at a certain speed thing. so i am pretty sure its not that. also just got my brakes done less than 5k ago. looked at them then and there was no problem. havent been driving them hard either, so i dont think they are warped.
and i know this is odd, but i can "feel" that it isnt in the tires. i mean i can "feel" it in the floor. i know what tires feel like- just trust me on that- long story. anyway, i thank you for the advice. i hope that it is the suspension though. well find out. and ill let ya know.
and if anyone has other ideas, or similar experiences- feel free to comment.
Your brake caliper could be moving around if something wasn't put back in correctly. If you get out of the car and look at it it will look normal but once you are driving and put on the brakes it will shift a little and cause a bump or thud feeling in the brake pedal. It could also be that one of the clips on the brake pads has come out and is letting the pad slap against one side of the cliper when you are braking. I've had to fix alot of cars that have had this happen. If it started happening after you got the brakes done then this is the first place I would inspect.
a friend had something like that happen to his 93 Escort, and took it in to the ford dealer...they told him that he needed to have all his backing plates replaced(front rotors:hmmm and new calipers, and yada yada yada...the estimate was like $600. I told him to take it elsewhere and he got a lower estimate($500). I took his wheel off and it was obvious what the problem was...there was a retaining bolt missing from the caliper. $11 for four bolts and thirty min of work...I told him he owed me a coffee after that.8D

Exactly the type of thing you expect at the dealer. At one of the shops I worked at I had a customer come in with this type of problem. When I took off the wheels I realized that whoever did the brakes didn't put ANY of the pad clips back in. That pads were all messed up from bouncing around in there and it messed up the calipers and the rotors. She had been driving it like that for about 2 months. After I fixed it and she paid the bill she informed me that she was gonna go home and slap her husband around a little.
wonderful. if thats the case. i took my brakes to be done earlier this year. before may. except the fact that i didnt take them to the dealership. i took them to a shop down the street. if it turns out that the calipers and rotors are fudged up because of the brake bads. is it covered under the warranty? the rotors and calipers that is.

If anything was damaged BECAUSE of the work done by the shop, then they should fix it free of charge.
if you didn't take them to the dealership, they won't cover it under warranty. The other shop has to pay for the screw up.

its awsome to have hook ups at the dealership. and the only reason i do...is because we have bought 4 cars from the dealership in the last two years. they know us by name!
