Default If you change your own oil...

FYI - Had my oil pan replaced recently because I stripped the plug out... There isn't anything for it to back up against. Use a torque wrench on it.

You bo have the crush washer for the drain plug?

Then just hand tighen it til it is snug.

Just currious, why you change your own oil? I like working on my car but changing oil sux and it is almost just as cheap to have it done for you.

The reason I change mine is because of the couple of horror stories that I've heard of places around here. Now granted it's a couple of cars to hundreds they do a week. I've heard them not putting the plug back on tight enough and the oil just draining out, or them not putting the oil cap back on and then the oil spits all over your engine bay.

I agree with Chief Indica. I rather do it myself because I can get quality filter and oil verses the cheap stuff and have it done for the same price or less.

Yes, it is a messy job. But if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

Well - I just started doing mine own. And I know it messy and only costs slightly less, but I needed to last time as I put some of that oil additive in to help clean deposits...

If that even work I have no idea. I seem to be getting slightly better mileage.

definitely change the oil yourself if it's a car you want to keep. I've heard of those oil places using oil from the drain bins and not changing the filter, then when you complain, they just say "what do you mean? That's new oil."

not for me...I change it myself every time.

Yes, had the crush washer.

I change my own oil because I can do it in about 15 minutes versus waiting in line at these oil change places. Like others who posted before... Heard too many horror stories.
Also, I use Amsoil. A lot of the places won't change the oil unless you purchase it from them.

I like changing my oil. It gives me something to do.:hmmm: The only problem I run into is I cant get my bottle jack under the car anymore so I have to get a 2x4 to roll over. 8D
