just a few days ago i was so happy that i fixed the ticking noise by taking off the head and cleaning it. well "it's back". sounding like a train again. anyone got any ideas before i set this car on fire!!! if you don't remember it is a 97 tib with a 1.8 and 63K:dead:
Well seeing as how no one seems to know, you'd be better off just taking it in to the dealer, with only 63K on the car it should still be under warrenty. :ermm:

Here's something to think about. You said you did multiple engine flushes, there's one problem that can arise form this. I have repaired many cars that have had these flushes done to them, here's why.
You put the can of flushing fluid in the car and let it sit and run for a while. This stuff breaks loose all the crap in the engine so that it flows down to the pan. The thing is, that this debris is flowing into the oil pan while the car is sitting there going through the process. That debris intern clogs up the oil pickup. You drain the oil and get some of the crap out, but the rest is stuck in the pickup, making it harder for the oil pump to do it's job, and possibly keeping it from getting oil to the top of the engine where the ticking is. Now, no matter what oil you put in the car it can't get to the top of the motor. This may be the reason the ticking is still there.
Also, stop by a shop and have them use an external oil pressure guage to see what the pressure is. The pump may be able to build up just enough pressure to keep the idiot light from coming on, but not enough pressure to keep the topside of the engine oiled properly. Have them pull off the valve cover ant start the car to see if oil is getting up there properly. You'll be able to see if enough is getting to the cam(s) and rockers.
i'm running 5w-30 synthetic. i was kicking myself in the rear for not taking the oil pan off last weekend. the oil pump screen sounds like the next best thing to try. thanks for the idea. i will try it sometime within the next week:hmmm:
