Default car doing some crazy stuff! (wireing/turn signal - related)

well.. ever since i got my car it had aftermarket sidemarkers. id always wanted to rewire them cus they were only on there with wire taps.

so i got the driver side done, cut the wires and put it all back together with wire nuts.

on the left side however, the wire taps were put very close to the bulb harness, so i had to cut the wire there. to make it easier, i wire nut'd an extension to each of the threee wires. makeing them longer basically.

so then, i go to test all the lighing, to make sure i have the right wire connecting to the right wire before i wire everything back together for good.. and nothing works!

i can hook the side marker wires up to the correct wires, and the light never comes on.

same with the turn signal harness.. the bulb DOES light when i turn the turn signal for that side on. it blinks like it would in the day when all lights are off. but the thing is all lights are on.. it should blink from dim to bright.

also, the REAR tail light won't come on.. the rear blinker will blink, the backup lights will go on, but the red tail light doesn't light up like it should when the lights are turned on. (blub is not blown either.. i checked all th blubs, thats not it)

so its like the whole passenger side of the car is on the fritz?!

anyone have any clues? this is annoying as hell!

Sounds like you shorted something to ground?

hmm. so how would i have done that? 'shorted to ground' .. doea that mean i grounded a power wire somehow.. or my ground is not grounding properly?

and even then, i have NO clue how to get at it or where it'd be. there was a 98 accent wireing/electric manual on ebay a week or so ago. i bookmarked it, but forgot to ever go back and check. i sure shoulda!

:depressed:

Check to make sure you didn't blow any fuses. A quick fix like that can save you hours of tearing everything apart because you overlooked the fueses. This has happened to me when I installed my neons, foglights, etc.

yup.. a little post-mortum, but its ok :

was just getting back on here let ya'll know it was a fuse..

id checked all the ones in the cabin, but didn't pay much attention to the ones in the engine bay. ..did a little eye-following of the wires tho, and realized the one wire that wasn't getting power ran thru that fuse box too. (i tracked it down.. the one that lighted the dim/small filament wasn't getting power)

its all gravy now baby :

..just wish i could figure out some damn way to make the side markers blink when all lights are off but your indicating a turn, and ALSO be on as running lights when all lights are on and your not indicating a turn. its kinda either/or uzzled:

Wire it in with the blinker. Should do the same thing as the blinker light. If its the same set-up on the Elantra like mine.

hmm.. i don't think i can.

there are two wires for the side marker. one power and one ground. there are three for the turn signal: a power for the little filament that turns on with the lights, a ground, and a wire for the big filament that only gets intermitent power when indicating a turn.

the way it is wired up, the side marker power goes to the little filament power, and the ground from it goes to the big filament power. that way, when i turn the lights on, the power wire gets power from the power going to the little filament constantly. when the blinker is turned on, there is power sent down the wire to the big filament too. when this happens, there is power sent to both wires from the side marker, and it cancels. so it goes OFF when the blinkers gets BRIGHTER.

some other options are however:

if all the lights are off, there is only power sent down the wire to the big filament when indicating a turn. this means power is sent down the ground wire to the side marker, and nothing happens to the power wire from the marker. so it just sits there.

if i wire the marker power to the small filament power, and the ground to the ground, then the marker will be on all the time when the parking/headlights are on. and will never blink.

if i wire the marker power to the big filament power, and the ground to the ground, the marker will blink just like the turn signal all the time. it will only come on when the turn is blinking though. it won't light up constantly with the parking/headlights.

but i dunno.. is this last one how most factory side markers are? for some reason i thought they were always lit at night when the lights are on, and blinked too, like turn signals.

i dunno uzzled:
