Welcome to the boards, even if you are a Honda guy.:

Yeah it's difficult to find any useful information on this but I'm trying to change that. Also look at http://www.turbomirage.com/. It is essentially the same chassis as an Excel so most info is applicable.

thanks for the help. i was able to find this site through turbomirage:
http://mirage.fateback.com/

which has this section:
http://mirage.fateback.com/turbo/body_turbo.html

now would i be able to follow that listing and use those parts to swap into a 91 Excel if they are the same chasis?

also i didnt read anything about axles or the ecu
ecu i would assume would come from a 89-94 4G63T car with the motor. and im also guessing that if i use the KM-210 or the F5M33 tranny that i would use the axle that would normally go for those trannys?

sorry for the 3 million question but i want to start putting this list together for parts, go junkyard hunting and have this done before i get snow on the ground.

actually that what brought the 4G63 swap to mind, i was originally thinking of either rebuilding the stock 4G15 or swapping out for a Scoupe engine. I emailed SCC directly to ask for more info and they refered me to RRE which i have yet to hear back from.

i just want to make sure i have everything handly cause i will be doing this swap elsewhere then my home garage and in about a weekend's time.

That list can be followed for the Excel. There are a lot of parts refering to the Colt/Mirage turbo as the donor. Those things are almost impossible to come by, but they are common parts which I believe were used in the 92-95 Elantra, and maybe something else too. The b!tch of it is confirming that they are indeed the same - I try and cross reference as many part#s as possible to see what's in common.

ECU will have to come from the donor car. Probably the most tedious step of this swap(or most any swap really) is going to be combining the two wiring harness' to get everything to work right.

The tranny and axles remain as my darkest grey area. I don't think that the axles that come with the 4G63turbo gearbox will be direct fit. I'm not clear on all the tranny codes either. Perhaps we could combine what we know and come up with gearbox application chart like the motor apps page from roadrace. It could clear up some of my questions and make searching for donors that much easier.

I too have e-mailed RRE and have not gotten any response.

After searching for 2wd turbo Eclipse/Talon/Laser donors and seeing their prices and slim selection, I have been contemplating a n/a 2.0 swap from either E/T/L or an old Sonata. Even a 1.8 from an Elantra would be 200% better than the stock 4G15, and it'll be much more affordable with less headaches involved.

I'm right outside of New Brunswick(Middlesex co) and frequently go up to Netcong area to see a good friend. Actually, I'm heading to Newton in the next day or so to look at a 4x4 I may purchase(yet another project!). I would be more than willing to colaborate our efforts. My e-mail is in my profile - feel free to drop me a line.

Peace!

Yea lucky for me i have a good friend who knows his way around a 1G 4G63 since he has a 1G Eclipse. He also has another 4G63 from an older GSX so i'll take and use the engine and find a tranny to bolt to it. I would assume the ECU's would be a direct swap since they are from the same year. At least thats how most honda's work, ones in the same year use the OBD-0 and be directly connected from one another.

I'll email you soon so we could hopefully put our heads together and get this swap done on one of our cars. Then we could compile a comprehensive page on what to use and where to get it to help clear this confusion.

I think it's necessary to get the computer from the same year as the engine, if that's what your saying. Within the 1stG there are year to year changes. If i recall correctly, 93 & 94 ECUs have a feature that makes upgrades difficult, while the earlier ones take better to basic management mods.

If you haven't already, take a look at http://www.dsm.org/ for a heap of info on all the differences.

Thats cool that you've got an experienced DSM'er to give you a hand. The few car guys that I know are all old school low-tech V8 hot rodders. I think things like ECUs and multi-port fuel injection scares them! :??:

Either way, they're pretty stoked about the whole concept of 200+hp in a tiny car like that. :devious:
