I think it's time for me to graduate up from my K&N filter in my stock air box.
1. Looking at intakes it seems that a shorty (WAI) is the easiest way to go. From reading on the board, I'll get a little more HP and louder sound.
2. Or I can get the AI that trails to the wheelwell option. In my A-U-T-O- '98 Tib FX is there much modification I'd have to do to get the long CAI in there? Plus, it also seems pretty hard to find one of these made for the Hyundai and an auto one at that.
Judging by money at this time, I think the shorty is the better option. I don't race or anything like that.
Is the shorty that much better than the stock airbox? I mean at least with the stock airbox i was pullin air in from the stock grille location. With the shorty i'm pullin hot air in off the engine...
Oh yeah. What companies make a CAI, and what companies make a WAI for this car?
Your '98 doesn't have the charcoal canister in the wheel well, does it? I think only some '97's do. You shouldn't have any problems using the AEM CAI. We'll be selling them here on Dec 9th, or if you need one now, you can check eBay.

AOS also makes a CAI.
You can also get a heat shielded filter from Toucan (RActive) and their extension piece that will allow you to get cold air from the grill or airdam. Total cost is about $80 or $90. The extension is about 3' flexpipe with a nine inch elbow and the other end has a grate to keep rocks etc out.
This is just another option that is a little cheaper and still allows cooler air to get in instead or using short ram or paying the extra for a CAI.

I can't get any pics from the Ractive site, but seems like speedstate has an AOS CAI (http://www.speedstate.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S-US&Product_Code=HYU-INT-CAI-AOSCAI&Category_Code=HYU-INT-CAI) that doesn't seem to bad and it states auto or manual, but i'm gonna have to wait to spend $200+ on it
Is the shorty pretty much outa the question with my car?
no the shorty is not out of the question for your car....the reason everyone is gearing you towards not using a shorty is that is it bad for your car....you see, when you suck up hot air from your engine, it is better to have your stock airbox in my honest opinion..you might be getting a much better sound and stuff, but you would be better off...way better off going with the cold air.
Don't waste money on a shorty. Either get the CAI, or if it's too expensive, get just a cone filter and slap that directly to your MAF. A shorty will give you no benefit over a plain old cone filter.

ok your two posts above have make me go against the shorty. I'll keep checkin around at what I may be able to get soon. Maybe a custom wouldn't be a bad idea. I've read posts here about what kind of tubing to use, and i just found a guy (http://groups.msn.com/HyundaiTiburon/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message =4844&LastModified=4675390063457171588&all_topics= 1) that has completed one. I'll give him a mail and see what we can fabricate.
Thanks for the help guys, if I don't get this custom CAI done, you'll be reading my post titled "Yeah i got the AEM CAI installed"
