I am sick of having air flow through my large diameter metal intake pipe only to get smashed by my tiny MAFS housing. It is soooo small. I purchased a pipe for a honda or something. It would be perfect to relocate my filter behind my headlight. The only problem is the MAFS housing. I have taken the MAFS out of the housing and am contemplating cutting a hole in the chrome pipe and sealing it in.
My Question is: Will a larger diameter pipe cause the MAFS to function diferently? Like fluctuating idle?
I do not want to have to cut the pipe to put the MAFS housing in between two pieces of chrome pipe. Plus it is very unatractive.
You may want to consider HKS' Vein Pressure Converter.

I think it would run lean because the airflow sensor is reading flow relative to the size of the pipe it's running through. If you gutted the airflow sensor and popped it in a large pipe, the air velocity might be the same but there would be a higher quantity of air. I would think than since our cars run rich, it might be enough to even it out. Or maybe it wouldn't make that much of a difference.
If you want to experiment without hacking into your MAFS, I have just the sensor part, operational, from my 98 Elantra for sale. Like only $20 including shipping.
I have a standard honda civic polished pipe......I think it is 3.5" or 4".... I am going to put my MAFS in the pipe.... I don;t give a shit...... I like experiments....noone seems too sure about this topic....I'll try.
