Yes this is from a honda site, but there's a LOT of good technical information and dyno charts that should help you people building custom intakes.

makes sense, on dynos the short ram actually shows more gain only because the hood is open though. We have discussed before how sometimes a short ram feels like it helps more because it does not have the same restriction as the cai, my prob is I'll put my short ram on and right when I say that it feels like its runs crappy then I switch back, so I kinda think it is a matter of prefrence.

crappy how? like loose? and cheap and like youre gonna be pushing it home? i know what you mean. it feels god at first, but then it feels like the car wants to go back to cai. why?? whats the significance? I DONT KNOW!!

part of the problem with a major difference in it feeling like crap is the fact you got to remember to reset your ecu. This will give the engine a chance to get used to a new setup. You should do this with each and every mod you do to the car. and give the car like 30-40 miles of driving time to "relearn" and re tune itself. also more air mass doesn't necc. mean more power. especially if you dont have header/exhaust work done so that extra air can get out of the engine.

Ik, here is the problem with comparing dynos between the short ram abd CAI

The obvious, with the hood open, you don't seal the hot air in so it is pulling cooler air in to the intake then if the hood was shut.

Also, the engine hasn't had time to warm up when you do a couple quick dyno runs so the air around the engine (even if the hood was shut is not warm yet.

So yes, with the hood open and the engine not warm, the shrot ram will show better gains because the pipe is shorter. BUT in real world driving, where the hood is closed and the engine is hot after 10 minutes, a CAI will show better gains.

So in conclusion, if you want to only take 10 minute drives around town with your hood open, then get a short ram intake but if you are like the majority of the people in this world, and you drive with your hood shut then you are better off with a CAI.

Reading through an old Sport Compact Car, I found a writeup on their Project Gen1 Miata that has an intake comparison. They compared Racing Beat's cold air, their short ram, Jackson Racing's CAI, and HKS's intake. RB's short ram made the most power on a dyno with results corrected for actual intake temps that were measured earlier that day at 45mph.
