Default is this possible? just thinkin

Ok i gotta question just curious. U people know what the intercooler looks like on a WRX right? How its right under the hood scoop. well i was wondering if htis was possible. just thinkin u know dont mean i wanna try it. Ok here it is. Take a WRX scoop and mold it in to my hood. take one of them stupid ass front mount intakes that look like intercoolers and put it under the scoop. then take some piping and put it to the throatle body. u know what i mean? is this possible? brother said no but i was just thinkin it would look kinda cool. who knows.

It'd work... but:
2Unique (i think) has the scoup and they also have a special
intercooler for the application. Basically one small enough to fit
and also work considering on one side you have a relatively potent
generator of heat... e.g. a small one sided intercooler.

P.S. Alot of people with WRX's chage out that intercooler with front
mounted ones to gain better performance.

Well, it would certainly give you a nice feed of cold air to the engine., but you would have to work out some way to stop water from getting into your engine when it rains.

You could always use it to feed air into your factory airbox, and enlarge the small drain holes in the bottom of the airbox to allow for the water to drain out when it rains. replace the standard paper air filer with a K&N Panel filter (or similar other brand) and away you go.

Cheers

I don't know if you have the clearance between the engine and hood, but even if you do, it would be foolish. Remember, heat rises so sticking it above the engine would lessen the cooloing capabilities of the intercooler. Also, even with the hood scoupe, the opening usually isn't as big as the one in the fromt of your grill, so even less cooling capabilities.

Like already stated, alot of WRX guys remove the top mount intercooler to install a front mount.

Sound like an only for look thing.

Personaly I only put that much effort into something that will gain me performance. But I'm into performance and just mildly into looks.

Do this and gain from both sides of the spectrum.

1) Install a scoop of your choice and you'll have a fresh supply of cold air into the engine bay.
You wont have to worry about rain, as its such a minimal amount that enters, and it evaporates instantly.

2) Install custom piping to the front where a front mount intercooler is located. You can buy a K&N filter that
is identicle to the front mount intercooler. This is a true CAI with a hint of RAM air!
