Hey, i have a 1992 elantra with a 1.8 DOHC in it. I was told by my friend (my familys long trusted mechanic) that i have the exact same engine in my car as his wifes eclipse (1993 or so eclipse). He was telln me how surprised he was and how he could help out with whatever engine problems i have, since he has the same engine. so my question is....if this is the case (as i heard from two other 92 elantra owners) then could i order performance parts (engine) for that year eclipse and bolt them on??? please help, i dont wanna get rid of my car and im running out of options for performance (only thing i got is a head for a 2.0 lol) please let me know if you have any info, thanks
Yes it is the same motor. Older hyundai models had DSM motors, in fact the same as the ones found in the laser, talon and eclipse I believe. They will bolt on.

Ok, first off I don't think they are the exact same engines. I believe the 92 1.8 elantra is the 4g67 and the 93 eclipses are using the 4g37. I believe the parts could still work, the engines are probably very closely related, so with some minor mod work it could be done fairly easily I believe. I still think they'd have to be modified a bit though. I'd check with your friend and have him go through your motor to make sure 100% that it is the same. Here are some posts on the DSM elantra's hope they can help. Again i'm not entirely sure so hopefully some else will be able to help a little more.
hey how would i go about checkin the number of the motor 4g67 or 4g37? It should say it on the car somewhere right?? i dont want anything too major, but if i could get intake and a header id be happy. litle stuff li ke that
If I was you i'd go with 4g63T swap like Kirk said. If you really want to check the engine in you car, i'd check the owners manual if you still have it, or just do a search on the web i'm 90% sure its the 4g67.
