Default Arrrrghhh. Headache over cams.

If been following the threads and emailing like a mad-dog trying to make up my mind about the new cams offered on SR....you know, $730.00
buckeroos. I think I'm getting confused about all the comments.....cams+ECU, verses just cams
etc. What I'm asking everyone is this. If emissions and warranty were not issues, would you get em if you had the cash? The extra hp is the whole point for me, but are there drivability issues here I'm not aware of for instance? ;/

I wouldn't get them. I would only do it if your going turbo or s/c. Those cams won't be streetable. Your idle will be messed up and the car will run ruff!

On the other hand, streetable is a subjective term. My friend is putting down over 400whp in his 1g talon, and at idle, it isnt all that much more rumbly than a car with IHE.

Correct me if I am wrong but the duration of the cams is what gives you a rough idle. If you plan on driving around town with 168 degree cams, you will get a free back massage for sure. I am too looking for a set of cams for my 03 I4 tib. $780 is a little steep for me + i would like to get a little more streetable cam.

Thanks SteveD and Andrew, I appreciate the comments believe me. I'm just gettin a little frustrated trying to make my next move...mod-wise. I have a little money, thats not the barrier. Thought about headers, small gain, emissions issues, I have even considered nos for the first time in my life...not sold on that approach. The Alpine turbo is a possibility for the future....but I was sooo ready to get the cams because its a decent gain
NOW. I am just surprised that those cams could make such a difference in the way the car idles. I'd feel a lot better if I could ride in a car that had em. Then I could judge for myself whether I could live with it.

The cams won't do anything for you until you first get a cat-back, high flow cat, header, larger throttle body, bore intake manifold (to match TB), CAI, S-AFC and maybe even some mild head work. The cams allow the engine to suck in more air, but if you don't have the other parts to supply the engine with more air and fuel and the parts to extract the extra exhaust, the engine cannot make use of the cams.

Thanks for the comments guys. Oh, I do have a
2 1/2" catback and and CAI, so I figured the cam upgrade would do me some good...even without the headers...but maybe I'm wrong.
