A TBI spacer is much like a carb spacer. I haven't the faintest idea about what it does or how it makes power, but in HotRod, an LB1 V6 making 280 HP and some 300 ft lbs benefited most from a 2 inch carb spacer, bumping it to 300 hp and 315 ft lbs. I'm guessing at that stage of the game it's all about flow... I will mindlessly copy this mod, but damn I want to know how it works!!! I hate installing shit that makes power and I don't know how it works... makes me feel dumb, and shit

well apparently a throttle body spacer gives the plenum more volume which in turns give more top end power i think. It also gives the air entering more velocity as it enters the runners.
im not sure but wouldn't the spacer 'inclease' the length of the induction pipe?
if so the reason that it makes more power than standard could be because it is closer to the correct tuned length for the induction pipe???
mind you this would be only if its only on the airfilter side of the throttle body. if it were on the other side of the throttle body, crool lantra may be right.

Throttle body spacers do one thing and one thing only.
In carbed and throttle body injected(computer controlled carb) motors, it alows the air/fuel mixture to mix a little more thuroughly before it starts twisting and turning through the intake runners. This gives a better air/fuel mix to all the cylinders which in turn gives more power.
On a fuel injected motor that uses one injector per cylinder, you will see ZERO increase in power 99.999% of the time.
