well i got a few grand that i can spend on my car, im just wondering what kinda actions i should take, another thou and i can get that turbo kit from S. Africa. but i dunno, that is a lot of money ($4k). i might just go with a simple N/A setup. i got a question though, can a too big of throttle body hurt performance in anyway, im lookin at these TB i just got from a link, 61-65mm is it too big, or ok? i will ofcourse be going with a bigger IM, any good ones i should look at? thanks
If you have $3k to spend then i would say your going to do cams and all? if so i would seriously consider saving up just that little bit extra to do a turbo conversion. A turboed car would give you the most drivability and power as opposed to doing most of the N/A mods.
If you had a honda with vtec then i would be going N/A as they have two separate lobes on the cams which alow for a NORMAL bottom half of the rev range and then on the top half of the rev range they can go a ballistic with extreme lift and duration. This would yeild a car that drives like normal when driven normally and be ballistic when revved hard.
If you went an extreme cam on a hyundai motor you would lose most of your bottom end/normal drivability and only have GOOD power top end. YOur idle would also suck and prob be at somthing like 1200rpm. That means that in everyday traffic driving youd feel pretty silly.
Ive been there done that with N/A mods on my beta motor. Lots of money and very little power gain later... Ive moved on and turboed it and its the BEST mod that i have ever done and without a doubt i wont be going back to N/A unless i have a VTEC honda or Hyundai releases a motor with somthing similar to VTEC.
Thats my 2c. Sorry if ive offended you guys in here but i just thaught he ought to know the facts before he jumps in and spends his $3K
yea i knew that would happen, my idle is up around 1k all the time anyways, it doesnt bother me, but your right i would spend a lot of money for little gain compared to a lot of money and a big gain. the only thing is, yea i do have a bit over $3k, but i dont know if i want to put all my cash into my engine anyways. so ill keep it midly modified for now, and see if i can rake up some more cash, before i have to spend it on real life things, like a house and family
Well as for the throttle body, Make sure that the inlet manifold is bored out to suit.
As for being to big, i dont think it will be. The way i see it is the less restriction the better. Once the throttle body is on you will notice that throttle responce is improved greatly and as a result will feel more power all the way through the rev range.
Uhmm, a side note. When using the BBTB thats REALLY BB'd you might wanna take incoming charge velocity into consideration if going N/A. With the N/A setup it is the volme of air displaced by the cylinders on their seperate induction strokes that draws the intake charge through the TB; if you go too big you'll lose charge velocity and therefore will have fewer [lb/ft]^2 of air flowing through the ports.
With a turbo application, depending on the effective A/R and several other very headachy factors you might be able to go way big, as in big enough for Godzilla to fit through. But then agin you'd need a surge-type IM to support such an airstream.
Just some thoughts bro, hope it helped.:bandit:

well thanx for everyones input. if im lucky, my friend and i might get sponsored by his uncle who loves cars, he owns some million dollar cellular company. hopefully it will work out. and if i do, i will seriously be going turbo. hell yea!:evil::evil:
Unlike Carbuerators, it is very rare to hear of someone complaining that thier TB is to big. Remember, they are opening the amount of air that goes in, not the gas (like the carb does)
I'd assume you come from a domestic background by your comment, so it was easy to relate to the question...makes me think of the many people that are under the false assumption that throwing a huge 750 Holley Street Avenger carb on a stock or mildly' cammed vehical will help out...Well perhpas it helps the gas stations because of all the gas you'll be wasting??
