Ok I do not have an engineering degree nor am I a mechanical genious. I am trying to learn more about it as I build up my GK Tiburon, so what I would like to know is that in light of all that stuff you wrote (which I understood about 10% of) what do I need to do to get optimal HP out of an exhaust mod? For instance does that mean I NEED to buy a full catback or if I just get a custom job done will I get the same HP results? Thanks for any help for a n00b mechanic.
So, by that CO state Applet "Power required to accelerate to 60 mph" I would need nearly 230hp to get a 0-60 time of 6 seconds and 200hp to get a 0-60 of 7, that seems a little high. Plus, I bet that's in a perfect world with no shifting.

For real! My tiburon weighs in at like 3350lbs! Where does hyundai put it? Lost about 20 lbs by removing my rear seats though. I made a custom peice to hide the ugly metal bottom of the seats (the part the bottom of the rear seats snaps onto). I used that flexible 1/8" brown stuff from the home depot (I forget what it is called). And then covered it with some black carpet. It looks sweet. Although it adds about 5lbs back into the mix.
the front seats (side impact airbag leather covered model) 50lbs each, spare tire 36lbs, passenger airbag 10lbs, sound deadning material (tar paper) 12lbs (from the rear seats back), rear seats 34lbs, all material front seats back78lbs, beleive me it starts to add up fast
the new seats i have installed weigh only 13lbs each with working sliders

Xericrally - I don't know how heavy you put your car in as, but remember, you're supposed to put it in Kg.'s....so my roughly 2300 lb. LC2 Accent is ~1043.3 Kg.'s. Based on this, I only need ~168 HP to run 0-60 MPH in 6 seconds 8D, and 202 HP to run it in 5 seconds X). But like you said, this is in ideal conditions--in a perfect world, where the power is consistent throughout the RPM's, and there is no shifting required. Darnit.:dead:
