Default info on cai ?

i have fitted a s/steel cai to the tibby 1.6
it is a high volocity ractive unit
what i want to know is this
it connects to the trottle body at 3 inch then increases to 5 inch then connects to the air filter cone at 3inches
i was told that the air goes in and creates a swirlpot effect then compresses the air in the exit to the trottle body
is this true and is it good for the car??

Basically, an evenly sized pipe would do most for intake charge velocity. An unevenly sized unit will create cavitation in the airsteram, slowing the rate of the intake charge [cf/m]^2. The filter must also be properly sized.

For the best effect, you may want to wrap the steel pipe in thermal tape[somthing like Thermotec] It will isolate the intake tube from radiated heat.

Hope that helped bro!:bandit:

The 5" diameter will slow the air velocity down a bit then when it goes into the 3" portion just before the throttle body, the air will experience a drop in pressure and an increase in velocity. Therefore, the air is not being compressed, its just being sped up slightly. I'll let you in on a little secret. If you have an engine working at a steady RPM for example using lets say....100cfm of air, then the actual flow rate in feet cubed/minute remains the same as air flows through a pipe of different diameters, it is the velocity that changes.
