Default Installing AEM on Rev. A Tibs and '96-'97 Elantras.

If you have a Revision A Tibby or an Elantra with the canister under your headlight, you know about the difficulties installing an AEM intake. This is what I did with my brother's '96 Elantra in about 2 hours (includes time spent thinking about the problem). I removed the canister altogether. I don't have a CEL, yet, but it's only been a day since I did this. If I get a CEL, I'll post here to let you guys know. Keep in mind that removing your Evap. canister is illegal in most states, and definitely illegal in Cali. For this reason, I don't suggest anyone do this, but if you want to remove the canister, this is how I did it.

These bags are the four parts I bought at Home Depot, total cost $10.

I put the parts together with the large barb in the center and the two smaller barbs on the ends. I used small hose clamps to hold the hoses in place. In the next picture, you'll see the two hoses from above attached to the two ends. and the hose from the solenoid attached to the center barb. I removed the solenoid and associated hoses from the canister.

In this picture, you see the whole thing intalled ang tie wrapped up out of the way of the AEM intake.

Instead of removing it, could I just move mine to another part of the car? If so, what would you suggest I do?

so why did you run them all together? I have plugs in mine, and have had no problems to date. CEL? Sure, but it's been on for three years now. It'll never go off.:rambo:

I you are going to move the canister. Just get some hose the same size as the existing ones, run the tubes down (with the fuel lines I guess) all the way to the rear of the car. Get on your back and look under the left side of the rear bumper. You'll see the main support beam (chassis???) and close to the end of it you'll find a threaded hole. I have no idea what this hole is for??? Just find that hole (very easy to find) and grab a 10.5 bolt I think and now you have ONE place for a bolt. Then just drill and tap the other hole. If you find some sheet metal. Not too thick but still bendable. Get it like 1 or 2 inches wide. Then just make a strap like this......... --______--- The lil dip in the center is where the canister would go. I hope this makes sense. I have a Rev A. and I switched all of it's emissions gear to that of a second gen and this is how I mounted the other Evap canister. Sorry so hard to understand.

i REALLY wanna do this too so i can put in an AEM intake but i am kind of scared. I dont wanna mess things up and then have the CEL come on. Them have my dad hook up the meter and check whats wrong and it be that. And have him yell at me for doing it. Will the car run differently if its removed or no? I emailed someone about pictures on how to move it but they never came through.

I ran them together to avoid getting a CEL. If you don't care about a CEL, don't even plug them. Just grab the box with both hands and yank on it until you rip it off the car. Problem solved.:??:

I think relocating it would be pretty easy. I might do this tomorrow on my OTHER Rev A. Hopefully the only important part is getting long enough hose. The length of the hose wont affect the way it works though I hope.

length of hose wont matter because on non revision A tibs its in the rear of the car

i turned my vap canister on its side and cable-tied it to the top of the wheel well....its a UK car so i think the canister is much smaller than the monster you guys have in there. well the filter now should hopefully fit.:duh:
