Well, I've read so much, and heard so much, that I can't decide!!! I am thinking about lightening the Flywheel. I understand the workings in doing that and some of the consequences. The thing is, I don't understand how all this theory applies to real life.
I don't race, I just want my car to get going fast! So let's say I'm at a freeway entrance and I need to speed up to get into traffic! Will a lightened flywheel help? What about when I'm at a dead stop. Will I get to 60 MPH faster with a Lightened Flywheel, or would I be better with stock?
I've heard it could affect the torque, so will it slow the car down? Some say comfort is reduced. What does this mean?
I was reading that with a reduced Flywheel, I would free up more HP on each of the lower gears, so would more HP per gear justify a little bit less torque overall? Like I said, I don't race, and I rarely go above 140KPH, but I like to get there quick. I like to feel my car pull when I hit the petal.
Any thoughts or explanations on Flywheels? Would you recommend I do it, now that you know my intentions for my car?
Thanks

Hi there, all i can say is that you will get faster RPM increase but you should think about it before doing it. On a sall engine like we have, losing even 10 ft-lbs of torque will hurt!

Sean

if you don't race, then I would stick with the stock flywheel..
what happens is the car will rev faster as it has less rotating mass... but if all you want is to go faster with normal driving then I would stick with stock, as lightened flywheels can cause problems later on and so forth...
just my $.02

Shifting will be a little more difficult, and may take a little relearnig you car. You RPM will also drop quicker when you engauge your clutch. Shifting may be a little less forgiving and a mis shift could be a bad thing.
it's probably not as bad as it sounds, but something to think about.
Personaly I decided to pass on this mod.

The drop in RPM with a lighten flywheel is not that bad and I have not noticed any difficulty in shifting.

Did you notice any loss in torque?
