Default Intake Manifold Bore Question

Hey experts,

I currently have a R Side BBTB on my tib, and I want to get my Intake Manifold bored out to match it. Problem being, the one shop that is into engine rebuilding locally I don't think really knows how to do it. They said they can bore the opening so far, but that I'd have to do the rest of it. Now maybe this is just the guy at the front desk, but it seems a little weird to me.

Can you guys give me some instructions to 1) either do it on my own, or 2) give them to the shop so they know exactly what to do and how to make it work the best. OnPol I know you're out there somewhere. aranoid:

Thanks!

Tom

unless you have a spare IM and know that you trust yourself enough to not mess up... send it to OnPol... me personally.. I would hit the junk yards get an IM from a wrecked car and send it to Onpol or get a couple and practice the bore yourself to see how much fun it is <G>

I wouldn't mind trying it myself, but I have absolutely no knowledge on how to go about doing it. Is anyone on the board willing to give up this information? Thanks,

Tom

I dont think DIYing the intake manifold is a good idea....its not so simple as to just boring a bigger hole....you would want the down pipes to be benchflowed as well.

well if you are planning to stay N/A then get it bored to .58mm if you want to go turbo then max it out. im not sure the largest bore you can get out of a stock IM but its up there. i recommend Onpol, its where i had mine done and it was relatively quick. it took about 2 weeks to get it back from the day i sent it out. and thats shipping to and from puerto rico. so its not bad and he keeps good contact email wise. i always got a response within 24 hours if not quicker

Problem being, I can't go two weeks without my car and I don't have the extra cash to buy an old one. I know the shop here in town can do it relatively quick, but I want to make sure they do the whole job and not just widen the opening at the front.

What do I want to ask them to do at the shop? (Details please) Ie. Port the opening to match my TB, port the runners, etc? I just want to make sure they are going to do the whole job. Thanks!

which ever the case, dont rush the workshop that is boring and benchflowing the IM as you are just increasing the probability of error, and the possibility of increased cost due to the short time frame.

Have you tried the junkyard for a second-hand IM?

i got my spare IM for $30 that i sent to get bored out but Onpol bought my unbored one from me. So he may still have it for sale already bored out by now more than likely. Also any IM from any Beta I should work. So Tiburon 1996-2001 and Elantra 2000 and earlier is what you should ask for
