Default Maximum compression ratio.

I know that every one says that if you want power S/C or turbo is the way to go. I for some reason would like to go N/A. I have a 2001 5 speed Tib. Now my question is.. Would it make sence to raise the compression ration and if so, how much would it be possible without replacing the stock ECU. I have a full exhaust, CAI and SAFC. Bigger cams are on the works, clutch and BBTB. IM has been bored out to 58 mm and polished internally. I know that there are people running on 12:0-1 ratio but need to run an entire different ECU and not streetable. Is it possible or am I pissing in the wind?

Hi Eltiburon

How are you going to raise the compression ratio?....skimming the head or buying higher compression ratio piston?....Since you are getting a pair of camshafts, you need to know what the lift is or you may have a major problem when your piston hits the valve due to insufficient clearance.

but at that compression ratio, it goes for just one race before it gets stripped again:surprised:

i would suggest running around 11:1 compression. youll run fine with that and it wont eat up your rings and stress your rods and other components too much.

16.5:1 compression is insane and thats not going to last that long i can asssure you that!

That's about how much I was calculating. Maybe even 11.5, but i don't want to over do it. Now I just have to do some research on wich cams to get. Any suggestions as to wich set I should get at that ratio. I have a two in mind in mind. Either RPW's or Shark's. To answer stkhoo, probably shave the head, but if I can get the piston, i'll do those, prob much easier. And thanks for the heads up on the valves, I'm aware of that.

if you go any higher than 11.7 comp. you need race gas. regular 93 octane won't do it.

you would be ok with 11.5 comp.
just be sure you have cams that compliment the pistons, compression ratio and bore.
