throttle body questions PLEASEEEEE HELPPPPPPPP!!!!!!
i have a bbtb from shark racing.....back in march i took my 2000 elantra to a shop and they installed it for me..however, they said that when the car idled, it sounded as if the bbtb caused the car to "boggle down" and almost stall, so they removed it and put the stock throttle body back on.....i am taking the car to a second shop tommorow morning to see if they could help me, but in the mean time, can anyone offer some help on this..my friend knows a lot more than i do about engines, and he said that if an "experienced" hyundai tuner could provide some instruction on how to install the bbtb, he could try it for me...also, what could have caused the car to have those problems when i first had it installed..thanks

#1 thing after any performance mod is complete. you disconnect your negative battery terminal to reset the ECM. there are possibly 2 things that could be wrong with your BBTB. check the throttle cable maybe its not tightened correctly, but like my problem when i got mine, its probably the throttle idle screw. its a screw that sticks out and allows the throttle arm to rest on it, by adjusting this screw you can adjust your idle speed. thats most likely your problem maybe someone cane explain better than me what it looks like or has a picture of it. :rambo:

Skierd knows how to explain the problem your having. It's something like a idle bypass something or another that the LCs have. This is the main problem with doing a Beta TB swap onto an LC from what I hear. Most likely you will not be able to use the throttle body you have. You may need to get one from K-spec or PCS.
Re: throttle body questions PLEASEEEEE HELPPPPPPPP!!!!!!
maybe they forgot to re-adjust the tension on the idle cable and definately reset the ECU. I can speak from personal experience when i put my 58mm throttle body and intake manifold on that my car did stall a couple times even after i reset the battery... you have to make sure the car runs long enough for the ECU to readjust itself for the extra air coming in. just start the car when its about to stall put your foot on the accelerator so it doesnt stall out.. after you can get a steady idle then readjust the idle cable for 900 RPM

Wow glad I came here today. I just installed my SR BBTB on my '03 Tib(I4) and I'm having some problems. First thing was the idle. After I started it up the first time the idle was extremely high and all over the place. I then tapped on the gas and the throttle stuck. The idle seem to be OK now but the throttle still sticks. I was told over at NT.com to lossen the throttle cables and adjust the idle. How do I do that? I just think it's odd that we hare having similar problem with the SR BBTB's:cry:

Just as a follow up I was able to figure out the problem. It was the idle screw the hole time. Put the BBTB back on and after you're done you have to start up the car and adjust the idle buy either loosening or tightening the screw that sits underneath the throttle cable pulley. Once you have you're idle set between 700-900rpm's then you have to hold the screw in place with a screw driver in one hand and use a 8mm open-end wrench and tighten the nut against the TB with your other hand. Cause what was happening was every time I stepped on the gas the throttle pulley was hitting the back the of the screw and tightening it by itself and the throttle would stick after a couple of revs. Once you get the idle set and tighten the nut the idle will stay steady and the throttle won't stick. Even if you don't install it yourself tell the person who does it to set the idle by that screw and then tighten the nut behind the screw.
Here is a picture of the stock TB. The idle screw is just to left of my hand but has a plastic cap over it. It's in the same location on the BBTB but it doesn't have a cap:
This is the SR BBTB and you can clearly see the idle screw and the nut that has to tightened to keep it in place:
