Default MAF question

Everyone says that there is like an arrow on the MAF that should point towards the throttle body, and that is how you know it is in the correct position in your intake, but my problem is, I see no arrow on the MAF. Am I missing something?

probably not. as long as the grill is on the side away from the throttle body you're fine. why, is there a problem?
you would know if you have your maf in backwards. you would have black smoke come from your exhaust and your car would run like crap.

It can be... the grill's job is to "point the air in the right direction" for the delicate sensor. Removing the grill may cause the sensor not to measure correctly or even damage it.

Corgold sorry if I went off your question a bit. But I checked under the hood and there is an arrow on the MAF showing which the direction to point it. :

yo, DO NOT REMOVE THE GRILL!!!!
you have to get a new maf now. trust me, removing the grill is NOT doing your engine ANY good. i would either find a way to get that grill back on, or buy one from a junked elantra or tiburon.

Actually, unless your using a turbo or supercharger, there's not enough air velocity to need the screen. It's actually an obstruction to air flow. Look at a Granatelli high-performance MAF.... no screen:

This is a MAF for an LT1 Trans-Am.

I removed the screen from the stock MAF on my '97 T/A and also from my old '96 Elantra. I never had any problems with either one. I'm turbocharging my '01 Tib, so I'm keeping the screen in that MAF.
