Default Better than a CAI or is it just RICE

This is of a "front mount air intake"... so all of the experts on here.. think this will work better than a CAI or is it for looks to make people think you have a turbo setup with an intercooler?

I would say the later one looks like an intercooler, and I'd worry about it getting wet and hyrolock. RICE

There's too much surface area to provide any real "ram air" effect, so I don't think it'll work better than any other CAI. Also, you'll have to deal with people making fun of your "interfooler". I'd stay away from it.

That looks like it loves the water. Come on over and I'll throw a bucket full of nice cold water on it. Then we will see if it is better. j/k.

If you like it get it but if people start to laugh you better be able to smoke them.

lol its rice, think about where the air goes into that setup Its FLAT panel, going in a ROUND hole and the panels is lined straight up with the hole....I mean basic logic would say most of the air wouldn't be flowing into the tube at all lol. Cone filters are designed in a round fashion for a reason, flat panel ones are designed flat for a reason as well, to work in an air box. You would probably in fact LOSE power with a setup like that...

i for one think it would work better than a CAI, so long as its in front of teh car like an IC would be. with a lot of filter surface area, air flows in easy, into the filter 'chamber' where it has time to collect into a stream for the tube. gets the coldest air possible and only being what 3" or 4" thick you could find a place to fi it easily. only thing is that it probably weighs 10 pounds...

One problem is the layout of the filter. The air has to move 90 degrees from when it enters the filter to get into the intake tube. A better set-up would be to have the filter perpendicular to the tube with a tapered inlet fabricated between the filter and the intake tube. It still wouldn't deal with the water problem though.

Not sure if it was 2001 or 2002. But the manufacturer who designed that style of intake won some SEMA awards. They don't just hand those awards out without dyno testing, road testing, etc. Was actually looking for one of those for my 510. Where'd you find it?
