Default ECU

Could my stock ECU be reprogrammed when I get more mods or should I buy a new one? Also, where can I buy aftermarket ECU that will give some power increasment?
thanx

The ECU can be reprogrammed by REAL Racing. But there are problems that I had with it like check engine light. So I had to buy a new one. You don't need to reprogramm for newer mods. If you go F/I. Or Highly mod N/A setup. Look for piggy back or total replacement types.

so far i got a CAI, and a muffler, soon to get a completely new exaust system, then maybe cams, pulley, ported intake, and then i will see(it all depends on money)
so, will my ECU need to be reprogrammed if i do all of that? is there a point to reprogram it, just to get better performance?
thanx

you will not need your ecu reprogrammed, but instead need to purchase some type of piggy back controller. from what you say you want to do, an apexi safc will not do the trick because you cannot control timing or ignition. you might need to look into something from msd or greddy. but if you plan on just doin i/h/e and some other mild modding an apexi safc would probably work fine.

Go to powerchipgroup.com. They offer a replacement ECU for about $400. Tell them what mods you've done and I believe they can even custom tailor it a little. Everyone's right though, you need something to see maximum gains out of your mods, especially if you do cams. You need something to alter TIMING as well as fuel maps. That can only be done with an SAFC and an MSD unit, a piggyback or a new ECU. Check with powerchip though. I don't think anyone on here has one yet and we're all wondering if they're reputable.
