Yes you will be fine. However, your engine will go into "limp" mode, which means it will run really rich, your gas mileage will suck, and if you do it for too long you risk ruining your cat. I wouldn't worry too much about your cat though - I drove to California and back (which was like a 5000 km round-trip) for Christmas a few years ago with a faulty O2 sensor, which threw a CEL the entire way, and everything was fine.

The first O2 sensor goes in the header and if this is not working your performance will get worse. The second one that normally goes after the cat only measures the performance of the cat. It does throw a cel but will not hurt performance, just your eyes from looking at the cel.

but if your cel is on due to the 2nd o2 sensor, at which point will you know if your first o2 sensor goes out? pulling codes? when? how often? that's the kind of thing that's on my mind. o2 simulators anyone? i'm game, who do i send the $ to...

My upper 02 sensor is bad right now and has been for awhile.... Im finally getting one this weekend from Hyundai.... i was curious about these 02 simulators as well... how do they work and how much ! Would that o2 sensor cause my car to miss/sputter at all b/c its doing that as well as idling/driving poor w/ bad gas mileage....

o and yes if you were to leave it like that the only way to know if the 1st one went out would be to keep pulling codes every so often (once a month or whenever) until u got that code... when ur performance gets worse and gas mileage is bad then pull a code ;-)
