im running a 97 accent GL and i got some ods and ends added onto my car for extra horsepower but next to nothign other then a nitrous kit i got installed about 2 weeks ago ( a simple 35 shot ) Can some one please help me out here and give me some ruff ideas of what i shoudl getnext for my engin to add more horsepower without harming my engine. i would really appreciateit if someone can help me out here because im a pretty big newb and dont know much about this stuff,...
the nos is a good start. if you do not have exp in doing this type of thing. you may have to be a bolt-on king. the question you need to answer first is what power level do i want from this car?. you most likely have the 1.5l motor. a 35hp shot from the NOS is prefectly safe for that size motor. I would look into a header and customer exhuast for the car. replace everything in the exhuast(cat, piping). you should jump up to a 2"-21/4" pipe. go with a good muffler, not the maxwell house racing kind. you do not need to spend $300.00usd on one of those type of rice mufflers. keep it clean. don't let anyone tell you nos is not safe. I have raced with the stuff for years. not one blown motor in 10yrs of racing on dirt and drag. you have a good start. read up on basis engine theory. the hpbooks are a good ref point. you can buy them at barnes & noble in the their transportion section. I am in the planning stages of a 2.4l swap in my 95 elantra. I am building the motor to handle a 100hp shot of the giggle gas. if need anymore help email me.
If you do have the 1.5 sohc you can get a Tib Throttle body and drill it out to fit your car for a nice little gain. Other than that about how much are you looking to spend? As mentioned Exhaust will help along with intake. Header? Maybe turbo? Port and polish on the head.....Underdrive Pulleys or maybe as far as a Lightweight Flywheel...

intake & exhaust....cam (cams don't know if your DOHC or not)...bore it out to a bigger displacement pistons...low/high compression (depending on if your going to stay N/A with a little nitrous, or Turbo) .....
but really HP = turbo
the shiny little snail willhelp you out.

Apart from NO2, the only way to get significantly more power from the Alpha motor (& to a slightly lesser extent, the Beta) is to turbocharge.
N/A mods like CAI, Headers, BBTB all help, but at a disproportionate cost per h.p..
Nick.
Nick think about what your talking about before typing. N/A cars can make about as much power as a low boost tubo app. $ wise you have to spend a S load more than N/A apps. You have to upgrade your engine for good boost gains. Examples (high compression pistions, conecting rods, sleeves, ingition boosting, turbo timers, fuel mapping components. your talking thousands on top of thousands. N/A is the way for me till I get the dough to go pro.
