Default problem with MAF

When i installed my CAI on my 1994 lantra. I took out that whole mess of air restricter thinks like 5 of them and i love the sound of my car. but with my old air filter they had the MAF in it and now it wont fit into my new setup. So i still have that wire that plugs into it disconnected and now my check engine light is on along with my idle being messed up.

Any suggestions

I dont think your talking about the MAF sensor.... The big plastic sensor with the electrical connector that was connected to the intake tubing? You may be talking about the intake temp. sensor but I doubt that would affect your idle (it was in the stock airbox). You may very well be talking about your idle speed actuator in which yes it must be hooked up. You may just have to drill a hole in the intake for it. Can you be more specific on the sensor you are talking about ?

It is like 4 inches wide and it has lots of holes and eltrical things. all i know for sure was it was mounted inside my stock air filter.

Im still not sure what your talking about though I think its your intake temp. sensor. Plug it back in! Your car should still run fine even with it just laying around (though thats not a great idea as you will end up losing power). You need that so the ECU knows the temp of the air coming in your intake. You can stick this inside the cone filter that is what I did with mine.

Its a plastic sensor looking thing with a wire or 2 or 3 attached to it right? You should be able to put it in the filter and leave the wire running through where you clamp it on possibly. Are you sure the Mass air flow sensor is not on backwards? If I recall the arrow has to point towards the Throttle body.

It doesnt go in the air filter it belongs somewhere in the intake tubing between the filter and the Throttle body. You either put that in the intake and hook it up or you dont drive. Find a way to make it fit between the tubing somewhere!

make sure your not getting your IDLE AIR SENSOR and mass air flow sensor confused. first consult hmaservice.com. the if need be do the easy step of using a reducer to fit the maf into your intake piping. the maf is as wide as your stock piping was and about 4-5 inches long it is cylindrical and has a grill inside it with what would look like a chip sticking out on the inside. it (as the name states) measures air flow so that the computer, useinf it along with your o2 sensor(s) can calculate your air/ fuel ratio and adjust it. my 95 accent doesnt have a maf, i took it out, and it runs fine. however you will sure as hell get a shitty idle if you take out the idle air sensor. this is a vaccum based sensor that reads the amount of air comming in through the intake at idle thats all it does and is connected to the intake with a vaccume hose. check it out
