it does more than just regulate the voltage (this is a GOOD thing for older italian cars) but it also works as a noise suppressor so you do not get electrical noise in your stereo and the car's comp, and it keeps spikes in check.

btw, i think with groundings, you need to find the proper grounding points.
What I heard is.. some people have shitty grounding jobs and when they arranged the cables around, it improved.

Sure, just like the existing grounds are good enough, the existing intake is fine, the existing exhaust manifold is sufficient and all the other existing parts. Hell, for those who boost, you don't need a turbo to make the car go either.
