Can I Run Have A Good Stereo And Lightweight Underdrive Pulley?
I read that when installing a lightweight underdrive pulley, you gain power that was lost when the engine turned the much heavier stock pulley wheel. I also read that when having one installed it is impossible to run a high end stereo system at the same time as the alternator is weakened when idleing and can only support a sound system upto round abouts 500W.... please correct me if i'm wrong guys. I will be installing a high end stereo system of round abouts 1000W RMS soon and im still interested in this mod as a little powerboost (i also read that its results are doubled when added to a turboed application). Is there a way to get around this problem by maybe getting a larger alternator installed or something? I own a 99 hyundai excel twincam by the way...

it is possible you can get aound it by installing a larger capacity alternator... but you might loose the advantages of the Underdrive pulley that way... due to the drag of the alternator.

Re: Can I Run Have A Good Stereo And Lightweight Underdrive Pulley?
You most certainly can have a "good" stereo while using a underdrive pulley. You just have to be smart about how loud you play your music while your car is off or idling. I have a very nice stereo in my car running 2amps and a sub with a underdrive pulley without any porblems at all.
Re: Can I Run Have A Good Stereo And Lightweight Underdrive Pulley?
Yeah, I've still kept my sound system how it was before, i just had to turn the gain for my amp controlling my subs way down, else the lights dim really really bad. Honestly, I really didn't feel crap with my u-drive pulley.
Re: Can I Run Have A Good Stereo And Lightweight Underdrive Pulley?
My system will have a capacitor, so will that still cause the lights to dim with a underdrive pulley installed? How much power did you's gain when installing it? was it worth it? So all i have to do is turn the volume down abit when im at a stoplight and i should be fine?

Re: Can I Run Have A Good Stereo And Lightweight Underdrive Pulley?
Even with my subwoofer gain down when drive at 2.5k rpm, my lights will still dim pretty bad when the bass hits if I crank it way up. So, yeah, and I do also have two capactiters, not that they really do anything anyways, but that's another battle.
and honestly, I didn't gain anything imo. I mean, I know I did, but I don't really feel it. *shrugs* mabey if I took it off and put it back on I might, but other than that I don't know.
Re: Can I Run Have A Good Stereo And Lightweight Underdrive Pulley?
So even with 2 capacitors the headlights still dim with the underdrive pulley? I was told one capacitor would fix it with a stock alternator and normal internals (that means no underdrive pulley)... If it isnt worth it then i might not get it then hey.... I'll just save up for a turbo or somethin. Anyone have any other views?
