Default putting stock 2.0 cam gear in 1.5 sohc -possible?

well, has anyone ever put a 2.0 beta cam in an sohc? can it be done, and furthermore would it give any gain, or a loss, or no difference? and are the intake and exhaust cam gears the same on the beta? thanks for any thoughts/ideas!

No more rinky-dink mods, getting a job, saving till summer = Beta! or should i just buy headers/tib TB/clutch/tranny? and other misc. shiz for the same price?? the tib engine is a nice base for the future..

Off the top of my head, they are completely different engines. 99% sure that nothing from one has any chance of mating up to the other.

There is no way it would work. A SOHC cam and a DOHC cam themselves are completely different beasts. On top of that the Beta engine is significantly wider than the Alpha.

A DOHC motor has one cam for intake and one for exhaust. The SOHC motor has one cam for both. The SOHC cam has twice as many lobes as either of the cams in the Beta. For this reason alone, it wouldn't work.

Actually the cam gear is the same part number between Alphas & Betas. SO if you want to swap the exact same part, go for it.

Excuse the confusion. Your topic said "cam gear", the first sentence of your post said "cam", then the second sentence said "cam gears". While we're picking nits, it's not a cam "gear", it's a cam "wheel". Timing belts run on cam wheels and cam chains run on cam sprockets. The only cars that have cam gears are ones that have geared timing set-ups, with no belt or chain.
