U can adjust the cam timing. If done on a dyno, you can gain horsepower from it as you will tune it from hp, not gas mileage.

There is obviously a limit to how far you can adjust the timing (don't want the valves and pistons touchin each other).

Thanks for answering my question.

So you can't move the cam up a tooth on the timing belt? Or is that waaaaaaaay too much advance? I am used to OHV engines as far as tuning so bear with me.

Also... what kind of gains are we talking here with advancing the cam?

How can you adjust cam gear if you only have one?

if u mean an sohc engine, you can have one cam wheel and advance/retard the timing on intake and exhaust at the same time. if u have a dohc, you can still have just 1 adjustable cam wheel, but u can only adjust intake or exhaust respectively, as there is one cam shaft for each.

No more rinky-dink mods, getting a job, saving till summer = Beta! or should i just buy headers/tib TB/clutch/tranny? and other misc. shiz for the same price?? the tib engine is a nice base for the future..

I think what Lantra is saying is that the 1.8L and 2.0L motors are DOHC, but they only have one cam wheel, on the exhaust cam. The intake cam is gear-driven off the exhaust cam. For this reason, you cannot adjust just the intake or exhaust cam. Most DOHC motors (like the Honda B-series motors) have two cam wheels, one for each cam, so you can adjust one without adjusting the other.

Excalty. I dont see why hyundai didnt make two cam gears for a dohc motor . All it is. is the exhaust camshaft with a cam gear and a timming "CHAIN" for the intake cam.
